Synthesis and anticancer activity of (+)-nopinone-based 2-amino-3-cyanopyridines

Shengliang LIAO,Shibin SHANG,Minggui SHEN,Xiaoping RAO,Hongyan SI,Jie SONG,Zhanqian SONG

Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering 2015, Volume 2, Issue 4,   Pages 335-340 doi: 10.15302/J-FASE-2015079

Abstract: Twelve (+)-nopinone-based 2-amino-3-cyanopyridines 4a–l were synthesized from (–)-β-pinene. The structures of these compounds were characterized by FT-IR, H NMR, and ESI-MS. All the compounds were tested for their anticancer activity against lung cancer cell line A549, gastric cancer cell line MKN45 and breast cancer cell line MCF7 by MTT method, respectively. The results showed that compounds 4f, 4j and 4k had promising anticancer activity against these cancer cell lines, in particular, compound 4f exhibited broad-spectrum and highly efficient anticancer activity against cell lines A549, MKN45 and MCF7 with IC of 23.78, 67.61 and 53.87 µmol·L , respectively. The preliminary analysis of the structure activity relationship implied that the Br or Cl substituted group of the benzene ring in these derivatives significantly contributed to the anticancer activity.

Clinical characteristics and risk factors for mortality in cancer patients with COVID-19

Junnan Liang, Guannan Jin, Tongtong Liu, Jingyuan Wen, Ganxun Li, Lin Chen, Wei Wang, Yuwei Wang, Wei Liao, Jia Song, Zeyang Ding, Xiao-ping Chen, Bixiang Zhang

Frontiers of Medicine 2021, Volume 15, Issue 2,   Pages 264-274 doi: 10.1007/s11684-021-0845-6

Abstract: Patients with cancer are at increased risk of severe infections. From a cohort including 3060 patients with confirmed COVID-19, 109 (3.4%) cancer patients were included in this study. Among them, 23 (21.1%) patients died in the hospital. Cancer patients, especially those with hematological malignancies (41.6%), urinary carcinoma (35.7%), malignancies of the digestive system (33.3%), gynecological malignancies (20%), and lung cancer (14.3%), had a much higher mortality than patients without cancer. A total of 19 (17.4%) cancer patients were infected in the hospital. The clinical characteristics of deceased cancer patients were compared with those of recovered cancer patients. Multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated that a Nutritional Risk Screening (NRS2002) score≥3 (adjusted hazard ratio (HR) 11.00; 95% confidence interval (CI) 4.60–26.32; <0.001), high-risk type (adjusted HR 18.81; 95% CI 4.21–83.93; <0.001), tumor stage IV (adjusted HR 4.26; 95% CI 2.34–7.75; <0.001), and recent adjuvant therapy (<1 month) (adjusted HR 3.16; 95% CI 1.75–5.70; <0.01) were independent risk factors for in-hospital death after adjusting for age, comorbidities, D-dimer, and lymphocyte count. In conclusion, cancer patients showed a higher risk of COVID-19 infection with a poorer prognosis than patients without cancer. Cancer patients with high-risk tumor, NRS2002 score≥3, advanced tumor stage, and recent adjuvant therapy (<1 month) may have high risk of mortality.

Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy and micro-cavity components for probing samples: a review Special Feature on Precision Measurement and Instr

Lin CHEN, Deng-gao LIAO, Xu-guang GUO, Jia-yu ZHAO, Yi-ming ZHU, Song-lin ZHUANG

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2019, Volume 20, Issue 5,   Pages 591-607 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1800633

Abstract:

We give a brief review of the developments in terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) systems and microcavity components for probing samples in the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. The broadband terahertz (THz) radiation sources based on GaAs m-i-n diodes have been investigated by applying high electric fields. Then, the free space THz-TDS and fiber-coupled THz-TDS systems produced in our lab and their applications in drug/cancer detection are introduced in detail. To further improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and enhance sensitivity, we introduce three general micro-cavity approaches to achieve tiny-volume sample detection, summarizing our previous results about their characteristics, performance, and potential applications.
